The brief was to create an open plan family space with social seating around the island at the heart of the room. We opted for L-shaped seating to allow people to talk to each other easily. Another key requirement was to have a secret door through to the client's pantry/utility area; to achieve this we designed a tall bank of units to house the fridge and freezer and incorporated the secret doors here! The client also wanted classic yet contemporary cabinetry so we opted for a flat fronted “In-Frame” door, the “Harris”, which ticked all of the client's boxes. The client was very keen early on to have yellow interiors to her units; the range of cabinetry specified allows you to have any colour sprayed internally, offering a truly bespoke kitchen. The room was always going to have lots of glass, so the client was happy to opt for a really strong dark colour on the cabinetry; we opted for “Farrow and Ball - Railings” and complemented the door colour with Brushed American Copper Handles.
